TECH TIPS: Mass Source Definition in ETABS
In this video, we will discuss how to define the Mass Source in ETABS. You can choose to define the source of the mass of a building from self mass, additional mass, from loads, or from a combination of self mass, additional mass, and loads. You can also specify how lateral mass is to be considered and located in the model.
Auto Draw Cladding Option
In this video, we will discuss the capabilities of the Auto Draw Cladding option in ETABS. The "cladding" consists of shell objects, with a None section property, that are added around the outermost perimeter of the structure. The cladding objects have no self weight or structural properties. These objects are intended to be selected before assigning a Wind Pressure Coefficient to apply wind load to the structure. We will go through an example.
Draw Developed ELevation
In this video, we will discus how to draw Developed Elevations in ETABS. Developed Elevations can simultaneously show multiple faces of the building in a single "unfolded" elevation view. We will show the steps to draw a Developed Elevation, which can then be viewed, and if necessary, renamed.
TECH TIPS: Rigid vs. Semi-rigid Diaphragms in ETABS
Rigid diaphragms have infinite in-plane stiffness properties, and therefore they neither exhibit membrane deformation nor report the associated forces, whereas semi-rigid diaphragms simulate actual in-plane stiffness properties and behavior. For most reinforced-concrete slab systems, in which the slab is sufficiently thick and membrane deformation due to lateral loading is negligible, rigid diaphragms produce results nearly identical to those of semi-rigid diaphragms, while taking advantage of faster computation. Semi-rigid diaphragms should be modeled when significant in-plane deformation does occur, or when required by code. Floor diaphragms can only be assigned to elements in the same X-Y (i.e. Horizontal) plane.

TECH TIPS: Generalized Displacements- ETABS
In this video, we will discuss how to utilize the Generalized Displacements tool in ETABS. A generalized displacement is a named displacement measure that is user defined. It is simply a linear combination of displacement degrees of freedom from one or more joints. For example, a defined generalized displacement named "DRIFTX" could be the difference of the UX displacements at two joints on different stories of a building.

TECH TIPS: Creating Reports- ETABS
In this video, we will discuss all the options available to generate different kinds of reports in ETABS. These include a Project report, Summary report, and a New User report. We will also discuss how to make edits to the report and also export options.

TECH TIPS: Select Commands- ETABS
In this video, we will discuss how to use all of the Select commands in ETABS. This includes selection using the mouse pointer, intersecting poly, intersecting lines, coordinate specification and many others.

Exporting an ETABS story to SAFE
In this video, we'll discuss the steps required to export an ETABS story to SAFE. This includes exporting geometry and load cases as well as viewing exported loads, moments and deflections in SAFE.
Import/Export of IFC files in ETABS
In this video, we will go through examples of how to import/export IFC files in ETABS. IFC files are repositories of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data. Various types of IFC data are organized into subsets named “views” which gather data types relevant to various aspects of building design, construction, and maintenance. There are several such views, but only two views are relevant to ETABS : the “structural analysis view”, and the “architectural coordination view”.
